Maintenance Manual of 4M11 Series Diesel Engine For Land Power Generators
4.5.2.4 Camshaft and timing gear Assembly Procedures
With the camshaft, timing gear and air compressor drive geardisassembled, check them for
excessive wear or deviation from parameter specifications. If any, repair the camshaft, timing
gear and air compressor drive gear, or replace them with new ones.
① Check for presence of burr and knocking damage and ensure that the surfaces are free of rust,
scratch, chipping, and other impurities.
② Apply an appropriate amount of clean engine oil to the camshaft bores and tappet bores and
assemble the tappets. Refer to the assembling procedure of tappets for details. Assemble the
camshaft. Apply the force uniformly while pushing in the camshaft to prevent damaging the
camshaft surfaces and cylinder block bores and place the threaded end of camshaft on the front
wall cap side.
③ Assemble the sector plate, tighten the bolts to (35±10) N.m, and then apply the seal paint.
④ Assemble the cylinder block front end of the camshaft, assemble the gasket, flange, washers,
and hexagon head screws, and measure the axial play of camshaft. The axial play shall be
0.1~0.29mm. If the axial play of the camshaft is too small, check for presence of burrs between
camshaft and sector plate. If the axial play of the camshaft is still out of above range after
deburring, replace the camshaft.
⑤ Rotate the crankshaft in such manner that the zero-point of timing gear is closest to the
camshaft. Place the air compressor drive gear onto the camshaft, assemble the camshaft timing
gear onto the camshaft, and engage the zero-point of camshaft gear with that of crankshaft
timing gear.
⑥ After the alignment of the gear engagement points is confirmed by self-checking, mark the
zero-points of camshaft timing gear and crankshaft timing gear by a marker pen.
