4 System Setup

Overview

This section provides the setup procedures required to prepare the EX3000 Anesthesia System for
veterinary surgical procedures.

Materials and Supplies

Grounded electrical power source (receptacle for 3-prong plug)
Oxygen supply source [50 (+10, -0) psi, 345 (+69, -0) kPa]
Patient breathing circuit:
– Rebreathing (Universal F-Circuit) – 22 mm corrugated hoses and 15 mm wye connector, mask,
or endotracheal tube with 15 mm endotracheal tube connector
– Non-rebreathing (Modified Jackson Rees)
Breathing bag
CO
absorbent (e.g., Litholyme

Anesthetic agent (Sevoflurane, Isoflurane)
19 mm hose and scavenger interface, with a passive or active waste gas elimination system
Small plastic funnel for filling vaporizers with anesthetic agents.
Wrench for tightening oxygen supply fitting
Apnea sensor (optional)

Initial System Preparation

Setting Up the EX3000

1. Position the EX3000 in the area where it will be used.
2. Connect the power cord to the facility power source.
3. Connect the oxygen supply hose to the DISS fitting on the oxygen inlet port (see Figure 4-1).
4. Open the oxygen supply valve and adjust the regulator to provide 50 (+10, -0) psi [345 (+69, -0)
kPa] of oxygen to the system.
5. Turn ON (l) the main ON/OFF switch on the back panel of the EX3000.
6. Allow the anesthesia system to complete start-up and self-test.
Note: Upon initial setup of the EX3000, several vaporizer fail alarms may be displayed due to the
vaporizers being empty. Once vaporizers are filled with agent and the EX3000 is re-
started, these messages will disappear.

Do not attempt to use the touch screen during self test. This could cause a
malfunction requiring a re-start of the EX3000.
