889 GENERATOR PROTECTION SYSTEM – INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Before starting, verify that the Ethernet cable is properly connected to the RJ-45 Ethernet
port.
889 supports a maximum of 3 TCP/IP sessions.
1.
Install and start the latest version of the EnerVista 8 Series Setup software (available
from the GE EnerVista CD or Website). See the previous section for the installation
procedure.

Click on the Device Setup button to open the Device Setup window and click the Add
Site button to define a new site.

Enter the desired site name in the "Site Name" field. If desired, a short description of
the site can also be entered. In this example, we will use "Substation 1" as the site
name.

The new site appears in the upper-left list.

Click the Add Device button to define the new device.
6.
Enter the desired name in the "Device Name" field, and a description (optional).
7.
Select "Ethernet" from the Interface drop-down list. This displays a number of
interface parameters that must be entered for proper Ethernet functionality.
8.
Enter the IP address, slave address, and Modbus port values assigned to the 889 relay
(from the Setpoints > Device > Communications menu).
9.
Click the Read Order Code button to connect to the 889 and upload the order code. If
a communications error occurs, ensure that the Ethernet communication values
correspond to the relay setting values.
10. Click OK when the relay order code has been received. The new device will be added
to the Site List window (or Online window) located in the top left corner of the main
EnerVista 8 Series Setup software window.
The 889 Site Device has now been configured for Ethernet communications. Proceed to
the following section to begin communications.
Now that the communications parameters have been properly configured, the user can
easily communicate with the relay.
1.
Expand the Site list by double clicking on the site name or clicking on the «+» box to
list the available devices for the given site.
2.
Desired device trees can be expanded by clicking the «+» box. The following list of
headers is shown for each device:
Device Definition
Status
Metering
Quick Setup
Setpoints
Records
Maintenance.
3.
Expand the Setpoints > Device > Front Panel list item and double click on Display
Properties or Default Screens to open the settings window as shown:
