Connect the Serial Cables from the pSeries 670 to the 128-Port Async
Adapters
Up to two optional 128-port async adapters can be installed. The D-shell connectors on the back of the
adapter attach to RANs. Serial cables can be connected from any of the ports on a RAN to the HMC1
ports on the managed systems.
If you are using a second, redundant HMC, connect cables from all the pSeries 670 HMC1 ports to the
RAN on the primary HMC, and connect all the pSeries 670 HMC2 ports to the RANs on the redundant
HMC.
Note: The use of the second HMC system serial port is not recommended because, by default, this port is
to be used for the modem.
