2. Verify that eIRF capability is enabled on the parent fabric:
a. Execute the display irf command and check the IRF mode field for eIRF capability status.
b. If the field displays normal, execute the irf mode command to enable light IRF mode or
enhanced IRF mode. Make sure all modules can correctly operate in the IRF mode.
3. Verify that the number of PEXs in the eIRF system does not exceed the upper limit.
The maximum number of PEXs in an eIRF system varies by PEX model and IRF mode.
In light IRF mode, the eIRF system can contain a maximum of 30 PEXs.

In enhanced IRF mode, the eIRF system can contain a maximum of 60 PEXs.

4. Verify that the Boot ROM of the device is PEX capable from the device's release notes. If the
Boot ROM does not support PEX, upgrade the Boot ROM to a PEX-capable version. For more
information, see software upgrade in HPE FlexNetwork 10500 Switch Series Fundamentals
Configuration Guide.
5. Verify that the device is operating in PEX mode:
a. Reboot the device and press Ctrl+B at the prompt. If you have set a Boot menu password,
you must enter the correct password to access the Extended Boot menu.
