6. Software RAID setup

RAID Drive [RAID 1(Mirror)] Creation Procedure

This section contains the RAID drive creation procedure. When creating RAID drives, follow the
procedure shown below.
1. Turn the power on, and then start the RAID utility. For details on how to start the RAID utility, see
"Starting the setup screen" on page 73.
2. After the RAID utility starts, on the Main Menu, press the <Up Arrow> key and <Down Arrow> key
to move the cursor to "Create RAID Volume", and then press <Enter>.
3. Select the "Name" item, use the keyboard to type the RAID drive name, and then press <Enter>.
4. Select the "RAID Level" item, press the <Up Arrow> key and <Down Arrow> key to display
"RAID1(Mirror)", and then press <Enter>.
5. You cannot set the "Disks" item unless three or more hard disk drives are connected to the product. If
two or fewer hard disk drives are connected to the product, proceed to step 7. If three or more hard
disk drives are connected to the product, set the "Disks" item to "Select Disk", and then press
<Enter>.
6. On the "SELECT DISK" screen, press the <Up Arrow> key and <Down Arrow> key to move the
cursor to a hard disk drive that will make up the RAID drive, and then press <Space> to select it.
However, you have to press <Space> to select two hard disk drives. After you have pressed <Space>
to select two hard disk drives, press <Enter>.

7. Select the "Capacity" item, use the keyboard to type the RAID drive capacity, and then press <Enter>.
8. Move the cursor to "Create Volume", and then press <Enter>.
9. A message will be displayed regarding creating the RAID drive. Press <Y>.
WARNING: ALL DATA ON SELECTED DISKS WILL BE LOST.
Are you sure you want to create this volume? (Y/N):
10. The RAID drive will be created under "RAID Volumes" on the Main Menu. Under "Physical Disks",
"Member Disk" will be displayed under "Type/Status(Vol ID)" for the hard disk drives that make up
the RAID drive.
11. On the Main Menu, press the <Up Arrow> key and <Down Arrow> key to move the cursor to "Exit",
and then press <Enter>.
