Glossary
SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol
A network protocol that can be used to manage networks locally, or world-
wide via the internet.
Subnet
A subnet is a logical sub-division of a Local Area Network (LAN) that has
been divided by means of routers or gateways. A subnet may include
multiple LAN segments.
Each subnet is identified by the Subnet Mask.
In a wireless network that allows mobile wireless stations to roam between
different cells, all Access Point devices and wireless stations must be
connected to the same LAN subnet.

Subnet Mask

32-bit address mask used in the TCP/IP protocol.
A Subnet Mask indicates the logical location (Subnet) of a network device,
similar to how an area code identifies the geographical region of a
telephone.
All devices in the same Subnet share the same Subnet Mask. This value is
typically assigned together with the IP Address.
