3.2.2 Software

The following software components play an important role in S140 operation:
Window interface

The SINIX operating system is run on the 3970-SKP. One component of SINIX is the
window interface based on the X Window system (see the "SINIX-2000 V7.5/V8.0" [1]
manual).

The system provides preconfigured windows for operation which are opened automat-
ically when the 3970-SKP is started up.

Console distribution program KVP (German acronym)

The operation of BS2000 from the 3970-SKP is controlled by the Console Distribution
Program. KVP carries out the following tasks:
KVP requires parameters that are stored in the KVP parameter file of the built-in disk of
the 3970-SKP. The KVP parameters are created in SINIX when the system is installed
and can be changed with the help of the SINIX configuration.

The number of windows for operating BS2000 and SINIX, the order of the
windows on the screen, their size and some other properties can be changed
using the relevant configuration functions. Information on this can be found in

"Virtual screens", in the "SINIX-2000 V7.5/V8.0" manual.
