Wire Tier Timing
Check timing after all repairs to ram, packer and knotter drive,
needle drive and knotter assembly. Distances A to D (see
following pages) must be restored after repairs. If they are not
correct, reset (on both sides, if necessary).
Adjusting the Needles
Pull off wire and start the tying cycle ("Tripping the tying
cycle", page 36).
Turn flywheel to raise needles to top-most position
(Figure 15, page 36).
Warning! Risk of serious material damages!
Never turn flywheel in reverse with the knotters tripped!
Distance A between needle and twister hook shaft should lie
between 0 to 2 mm (Figure 74). If it is greater, take off needle
and reshape.
Distance B between needle roller and shear lever is 3 - 8 mm
(Figure 74).
If distance B is less:
Slacken bolts 1 (Figure 75), turn out bolt 2 and run down bolt
3 to set needle height. Secure bolt 2 and tighten bolt 1
again.
If distance B is exceeded:
Slacken bolts 1, set needle height by turning out bolt 3 and
running down bolt 2. Secure bolt 3 and tighten bolts 1 again.
Having correctly set distance B, distance C from the needle
head to the twister hook shaft should be 80 - 100 mm with the
needles in their highest position (Figure 76).
If not, adjust the length of the needle lift rod ("Adjusting the
needles", page 68).
