5.6 SPARK PLUG

Replace every 6.000 Km (3,800 mi)
Recommended spark plugs: NGK BR8 ES ‑ NGK BR7 ES
The spark plug is an essential component:
Proper care of the plug is important for maintaining
the engine in perfect working order.
For maintenance, work from the bottom side of
the vehicle (A‑Fig.20) by removing the inspection
casing (C‑Fig.20). Remove the cap delicately by
giving it small turns clockwise and anti‑clockwise;
now unscrew the spark plug with the special wrench
provided in the tool kit that you will find under the seat
(all operations on the spark plug must be performed
when the engine is cold).
Examine
the
spark
reasonably long drive (0‑5 km) and after letting
the engine cool down (at least 0‑5 minutes), since
the sediments and the colour of the insulator can
provide useful information about the heat rating of
the spark plug, carburetion, lubrication and general
conditions of the engine. A light brown colour of the
insulator, around the central electrode, indicates
good working order.
After disassembling the spark plug, suitably clean
the electrodes and the insulator using a metal brush.
Adjust the electrode gap using a filler gauge: the
gap should range from 0.6 to 0.7 mm.
Blow onto it so as to prevent possible residues from
plug
conditions
after
entering the engine, then refit it, by wrenching
until finger tight. Then, using the special spark plug
wrench, wrench it but not too hard.
Spark plugs with a heat rating differing from the
recommended one may seriously damage the
engine.
It is imperative that any spark plug exhibiting
cracks on the insulator or corroded electrodes
be replaced.
