Troubleshooting if the system unit overheats

If the system reports the message
7/misc/pstemp (system is *HOT*!), troubleshoot the power
supply fans.
Remove the system unit cover.

Turn on the system power.

Check whether the power supply fans rotate when the

system unit power is on.
If all three fans rotate, the power supply fans are
operating properly. If the overheat problem persists,
contact the Digital Customer Support Center.
If one or two fans rotate, replace the power supply.
Refer to ''Removing and Installing the Power Supply''
later in this chapter for directions.
If all three fans are motionless, make sure the fan
assembly power cord is connected properly. Figure 5-11
shows how to check the fan assembly power cord
connection.
Turn off the system power.

Remove the eight screws that hold the fan assembly

to the power supply base.
Hold the fan assembly away from the power supply

base.
Make sure the fan assembly power cord is

connected properly to the fan assembly power
connector.
Align the screw holes on the fan assembly housing

and power supply base. Then replace the eight
screws that hold the fan to the power supply base.
If the problem persists, replace the power supply.
