Service Paper Element
Replace paper element every 100
hours of operation (more often under
extremely dusty or dirty conditions).
Do not wash or use pressurized air to
clean element. Replace the paper air
cleaner element only with the
genuine Kohler element designed for
your engine. If the part number cannot
be located on the old element, select
the correct replacement for your
engine from the chart on this page.
Cooling System Service
Visually check cooling air intake
screen, cooling fin areas and external
surfaces of engine before each start
and clean as needed to prevent
overheating.
Every 100 hours of operation (more
often under extremely dusty or dirty
conditions), remove the blower
housing and shrouding and brush or
blow cooling areas clean. Reinstall
housing and shrouding. Do not
operate without these in place and
secured. If blower housing has
access holes, remove plugs and
blow inside clean with compressed
air rather than removing blower
housing. Reinstall plugs.

Ignition System
All Command and Courage engines
have dependable, solid-state ignition
systems. The spark plugs are the
only component requiring routine
service. The standard spark plug for
CH, CV, and SV engines is Kohler
part number 12 132 02-S
(Champion
RC12YC). ProSeries
engines are built with a Premium
Gold spark plug, Kohler part number
12 132 06-S (Champion
Premium Gold plug can be used as
an alternate for the standard plug in
all applications. The spark plug for
CS4-12 engines is Kohler part
number 66 132 O1-S (Champion
RC14YC).
Spark Plug Service
Every 200 hours of operation, remove
spark plug and check its condition.
Replace if needed, or, if good, reset
gap with a wire type feeler gauge.
Bend ground electrode to gap
specified. See Figure 9. The gap for
single cylinder engines (except CS4-
12 and CV16) is 1 mm (.040"). The
gap for CS4-12, CV16, SV470-610,
and all twin-cylinder engines is .75
mm (.030"). Torque the spark plugs to
20 N·m (14 ft. lbs.) on CS4-12
engines; to 28 N·m (20 ft. lbs.) on
SV470-610 and all twin-cylinder
engines; and to 40 N·m (30 ft. lbs.) on
CH/CV11-16, CV460-493 engines.

Fuel System

Fuel Filter
Some engines are equipped with an
in-line fuel filter. Periodically inspect
the filter and replace when dirty.
Always use a genuine Kohler parts.
CS4-12 engines have a filter screen
under the filler cap, and an integral
screen filter in the fuel valve at the fuel
tank outlet. The screen in the filler
neck should be checked each time
fuel is added and cleaned when
necessary. The screen in the fuel
valve should be cleaned every 100
hours. See Figure 10.
