4. UNIT INSTALLATION
The instructions and guidelines provided in this section cover hardware installation topics, such as rack
mounting the unit and installing option cards. These instructions are presented as follows:
• Rack Mounting NetVanta 5305 on page 27
• Installing Modules on page 28
• Supplying Power to the Unit on page 29
• Installing the NetVanta VPN Accelerator Card (included in P/N 4200368L1) on page 31
For information on configuring a specific application, refer to the quick configuration documents provided on
your AOS Documentation CD. For details on the CLI, refer to the AOS Command Reference Guide (also
included on the CD).
To prevent electrical shock, do not install equipment in a wet location or during a
lightning storm.
The NetVanta 5305 system is intended to be installed, maintained, and serviced by
qualified service personnel only and should be installed in a restricted access location as
described in UL/IEC 60950-1.

Tools Required

The customer-provided tools required for the hardware installation of the NetVanta 5305 are:
• Ethernet cable
• Phillips-head screwdriver
• AMP P/N 59250 crimping tool or equivalent
To access the CLI of the NetVanta 5305, you will also need a VT100 terminal or PC with
terminal emulation software and a
CLI are given in the AOS Command Reference Guide (provided on the AOS
Documentation CD).
