IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
W hen using an electrical m ach in e, basic safety
precau tion s should alw ays be fo llo w e d , including the
fo llo w in g .
Read all in stru ctio n s before using th is sew ing m achine.
W hen the machine is not in use, it should be disconnected
from the electricity supply by removing the plug from the
outlet.
DANGER
To reduce the risk of electric shock:
1. A m ach in e should never be left unattended w h en
plugged in.
2. A lw a y s unplug th is m achine from the e le ctric o u tlet
im m ediately a fte r using and before clean ing .
3. A lw a y s unplug before replacing light bulb. Replace
the bulb w ith the sam e type rated 12 volts/5 w a tts.
WARNING

3 . Never o perate th is m achine if
■ it has a dam aged cord or plug
• it is not w o rkin g properly
• it has been dropped or dam aged
• it has fallen into w a te r

4 . Never o perate the m achine w ith any air openings
b locked. Keep v e n tilatio n openings o f the sew ing
m achine and fo o t co ntro l free from accu m u latio n
of lin t, dust and loose clo th.
5. Keep fin g e rs aw a y from all m oving parts. Special care
is required around the sew in g needle.
6. A lw a y s use the BERN IN A o rig in al stitch plate. The
w ro n g plate can cause the needle to break.
7. Do not use bent needles.
8. Do not pull or push fa b ric w h ile stitch in g . It may
d e flect the needle, causing it to break.
9. Turn p o w er sw itch to " 0 " w h e n m aking any ad ju st­
m ents in the needle are a, such as th read in g or
chang ing the needle, thread in g the bobbin or
changing the p re ss e rfo o t.
10. A lw a ys unplug the sew in g m achine from the e le c tri­
cal o u tlet w h en rem oving co vers, lub ricatin g or w hen
m aking any other user servicing ad ju stm en ts m en­
tioned in this in stru ctio n m anual.
11. Never drop or insert any object into any openin g.
12. Do not use o u tdoors.
13. Do not o p erate w h e re aerosol (s p ra y j products are
being used or w h e re oxygen is being ad m in istered .
14. Before d isco n n e ctin g , tu rn all co n tro ls to the o ff ( " 0 " )
position then rem ove the plug from the o u tlet.
15. Do not unplug by pulling on the cord but grasp the
plug before pulling.
16. No resp o n sib ility w ill be taken fo r any possible
dam age as the result o f m isuse of the m achine.
17. This m achine is provided w ith double in su latio n .

SERVICING DOUBLE­
INSULATED PRODUCTS
In a d o uble-insulated pro d uct, tw o system s of in sulation
are provided instead o f gro u n din g. No grounding m eans
is provided on a d o uble-insulated product nor should a
m eans fo r grounding be added to the product. Servicing
a d o u ble-in su lated product requires extrem e care and
kno w led g e o f the system and should only be done by
q u alified service perso n n el. R eplacem ent parts fo r a
d o u ble-in su lated product m ust be id en tical to those
parts in the pro d uct. A double insulated product is m a r­
ked w ith the w o rd s "D O U B LE IN SULATIO N " or "D O U B LE
IN SU LA TED ".
The symbol
may also be m arked on the product.
