Feed-dog and fabric feed
Feed-dog and stitch length
W ith each stitch the feed-dog moves forw ard by one step
The length of this step is determ ined by the stitch length
selected. W ith an extrem ely short stitch length, the steps

Feed-dog and sew ing corners
The gap betw een the tw o
row s of teeth is relatively
large due to the w id th of
the stitch plate hole.
Pulling or pushing w ill
result in gaps.
If the foo t is at an angle,
e.g . w hen sew ing over
th ick to thin or vice-versa,
the feed-dog cann o t grip
and feed the fa b ric.
W hen sew ing co rn ers only
a sm all section of the
fab ric is actu ally on the
feed-dog so th at it cannot
grip the fab ric w e ll.

are short. The fabric moves under the foo t quite slowly,
even at full sewing speed. Buttonholes, satin stitch and
some decorative stitches are sewn w ith a very short stitch
length.
Holding back w ill result in
thread build-up.
To solve this problem ,
place one, tw o or three
co m p ensating plates as
required behind the needle
under the presser fo o t.
C o rrect this by placing one
or more com p ensating
plates as close as possible
to the edge of the fa b ric.

To co rrect the height in
fro nt of the fo o t, place
one or more plates to the
right of the fo o t next to
the needle. Sew until the
fo o t is level again and
rem ove the plates.
