The Diagnostic Test

This chapter explains how to use the Diagnostic Test program to test the functions of the
computer's hardware modules. The Diagnostics Program is stored on the Diagnostic Disk and
consists of eight programs that are grouped into the Service Program Module (DIAGNOSTIC
TEST menu).
NOTES: To start the diagnostics, follow these steps:
1. Check all cables for loose connections.
2. Exit any application you may be using and close Windows.
The DIAGNOSTIC menu consists of the following functions.
DIAGNOSTIC TEST
HARD DISK FORMAT
HEAD CLEANING
LOG UTILITIES
RUNNING TEST
FDD UTILITIES
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
EXIT TO MS-DOS
SETUP
The DIAGNOSTIC TEST contains the following functional tests:
SYSTEM TEST
MEMORY TEST
KEYBOARD TEST
DISPLAY TEST
FLOPPY DISK TEST
PRINTER TEST
ASYNC TEST
HARD DISK TEST
REAL TIMER TEST
NDP TEST
EXPANSION TEST
SOUND TEST
MODEM TEST
The following equipment is required to perform some of the Diagnostic test programs:
The Diagnostics Disk (all tests)
A formatted working disk for the floppy disk drive test (all tests)
External FDD
Cleaning kit to clean the floppy disk drive heads (Head Cleaning)
PC card wraparound connector for the I/O card test (Expansion test)
Parallel port wraparound connector for the printer wraparound test (Printer test)
