FUEL SYSTEM
16. Install the pump gear (Figure 6-31, (1)) with the
pump gear index marks (Figure 6-31, (4))
around the idler gear index mark "B"
(Figure 6-31, (3)). The pump drive gear and the
idler are machined to very close tolerances.
NEVER attempt to drive gears into alignment
with a hammer. Ensure there is no trash or dirt
attached to the timer piston.

Fuel Injection Pump / Governor / Timer
17. Align the FIC lock bolt holes of the damper shaft
(Figure 6-32, (2)) with the fuel injection pump
gear (Figure 6-32, (1)). Tighten them together
while turning the pump gear counterclockwise
to take up the gear lash. Tighten the bolts to the
following specified value.
FIC Lock Bolt Torque
36.8 ± 2 N·m
(3.8 ± 0.2 kgf·m)
(27.1 ± 1.4 lb-ft)

collar.
