13.7 Annex VII: How to configure Windows Securities
How to configure Windows securities in order to activate RemoteAdmin connections
from remote client to a Windows Server 2003
Concerns: PRISMAspool V4.0x
How to reproduce:
1. Server PC runs on Windows Server 2003 SP2.
2. Install PRISMAspool RemoteAdmin on a client PC
3. Use the RemoteAdmin program to connect to the PRISMAspool Server PC
4. This connection could fail because of some Windows Security settings on the PRIS-
MAspool server PC.
Cause:
This problem is due to changes in DCOM securities (added in Windows Server 2003).
Solution:
If you plan to use RemoteAdmin from a Client PC to a PRISMAspool Server installed on
Windows Server 2003 you have to check and modify some security settings on the Win-
dows Server 2003. Next steps explain how to do this.
On the Windows Server 2003 system, use
Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy | Local Policies
Select Security Options and open "DCOM:Machine Launch Restrictions ..."
