5.4.4 Principles for checking compatibility between Job / Form / Devices
properties
The job and printer properties are checked via the form. Job properties are never directly
checked against printer properties except for UP3I Stapling in order to be compatible with
previous version (this special handling can be inhibited via an option in the registry (see lat-
er for details)).
Job properties
Job properties are collected (via PCL parsing) during the spool in process (but no check is
performed at that time)
The job properties are checked against the form properties when a job is spooled on a print-
er (when its status will switch from waiting to printing). The check verifies that all features
used by the job are specified in the form.
Colors checks are dedicated to jobs created by the Océ Windows Printer Driver (with Cus-
tom Tone as color mode).
The check of the job against the form can be inhibited via an option in the form (see in next
sections for details)
Printer properties
Printer properties are collected (via PJL or SNMP) each time they have to be checked. If a
printer supports both PJL and SNMP protocols, priority is given to PJL information (all prop-
erties available via PJL answer are not evaluated from SNMP protocol).
The printer properties are checked against the form when the form is mounted (explicitly via
mount form or implicitly via activate printer) on the printer. The check verifies that the printer
supports all features specified in the form.
If mismatches are detected, a popup window is launched which displays all the mismatches
and offers the possibility to reject the current operation (do not activate printer or do not
mount the form) or to continue anyway.
Form properties
The colors properties of the form have been designed in PRISMAspool GUI to match the
color configuration interface on printers with SRA controllers as well as the color configura-
tion interface offered by the Océ Windows Printer Driver.
Map Job Colors/ Printer Colors
The form offers to possibility to specify colors in many different ways matching the way Cus-
tom Tone settings can be specified on printers with SRA controller or by the Océ Windows
Printer Driver (with Custom Tone as color mode). Those properties will be checked against
the printer capabilities at printer activation time. When a job is spooled on a printer, a check
is made between the custom colors requirements of the job and the form properties. The
job goes to the error status in case of mismatch.
