6 Extended Line Printer Server

6.1 Introduction

Extended Line Printer Server (ELPS) supplies a subset of the standard UNIX line printing
daemon service for Windows in conjunction with PRISMAspool.
Print jobs submitted via the lpd protocol from the local or any remote host are forwarded to
the PRISMAspool spool. In contrast to Windows TCP/IP, Print server jobs may be associ-
ated with special parameters such as job class, printer, form etc. suitable for the spool via
entries in a "printcap" file. Additionally, the number of copies requested is interpreted cor-
rectly.
The ELPS service listens on the standard TCP/IP printer port 515.

6.2 Installation and Configuration

As ELPS uses the TCP/IP protocol, this protocol has to be installed and correctly configured
on your system. Additionally, the ELPS service listen to the same TCP port (515) as the
Windows "TCP Print Server" service. Therefore, these services MUST NOT BE USED si-
multaneously. When the Windows "TCP Print Server" service is found on your system dur-
ing the installation of PRISMAspool ELPS, it will be automatically stopped and disabled and
you will be prompted about this.
The Print Manager Spool of PRISMAspool must be installed next. A license key is neces-
sary to run ELPS (SPOOL_NET_CONN 4.0).
To install ELPS, select the "Extended Line Printer Server" component during the installation
of PRISMAspool.
