Automatic Tray Selection

The selection of paper in the 9045N printer follow certain rules in situations where the requested
and loaded media do not match.
If you ask for a specific tray, which has according to the paper menu the requested media type
assigned and tray linking is set to off, but there is no media loaded in that tray the job will not con-
tinue until you load the tray with media. The printer will stop and advise that a certain type and size
of paper needs to be put into the specified tray. If linking is on it will automatically go to another
tray with the correct size and type.
If you request a specific type of media to be loaded from a specific tray and that tray does not have
the required media type set in the media type loaded and tray linking is on, the printer will select the
paper from another tray with the correctly loaded paper.
If tray linking is off you have two choices:
If you change the media type of the requested tray in the paper menu to the correct type and
press start it will feed from that tray. It will also assume that the correct media type is now
loaded in the tray. The print speed may also be changed as required for that media type.
If you do not change the paper then it will feed from the default tray and assume the paper
type assigned to that default tray in the paper menu when you press the start key.
To overcome possible conflicts the best setting to use for tray selection within the driver is often
Auto-Sense.

Paper Size

When making selections for a print job, Auto-Sense will not work with the following paper sizes:
• Statement
• COM10
• Monarch
• A6
• C5
• DL
To use these sizes you must use the operator panel on the printer to turn off Auto-Sense for the
tray and set the intended paper size.
Refer to:
• "Settings on the Control Panel" (P. 13)
