Child safety

Because of their size, children are at greater risk for injuries than
adults. Suitable restraining or safety systems must be used.
All persons whose physical characteristics (e.g., height, weight) meet
the limit values provided by the established legislation in each country
must be protected by specific restraint or safety systems (i.e., certified
child seats, cradles, and cushions).
In any case, you are advised to always use homologated child restraint
systems bearing the proper test marking.
Incorrect use of a child restraint system increases the
risk of injury in the event of an accident.
• The seat belts in the vehicle have been designed and tested to protect
persons weighing at least 36 kg (79 lbs) and taller than 1.50 m (59
in.).
• To properly protect a child outside these limits, specific restraint
systems with dedicated belts or accessories capable of adapting the
child's position to the vehicle's seat belts must be fitted.
For installation and use of the child restraint systems, follow the
instructions provided by the manufacturer of the devices.
Always follow the instructions supplied with the child restraint system
precisely. Keep the instructions in the vehicle together with the
documents and this handbook. Never use second-hand child seats that
are not provided with instructions for use.
We recommend that you always carry children in
the rear seats and that they are seated in the specific
restraining systems: in the event of a collision, this is the safest
place in the vehicle.
Do not install rearward-facing child seats on the
passenger's seat if the airbag is active, as the child risks
serious injury if the airbag is deployed.
Backward-facing child seats must not be used on front
passenger seats equipped with airbags, as these could cause
injury and even death during deployment, even in minor
collisions.
If necessary, children can travel in the front seat if the front
passenger airbag is deactivated.
In this case, you must absolutely deactivate the passenger
airbag and ensure that it has been properly deactivated by
checking that the warning light G on the instrument panel
and the LED H on the roof panel are lit.
