Battery master switch

It is located on the right-hand side of the luggage compartment. To
access it, remove the small door B .
Use the battery master switch to cut off the power from the battery to
the electrical system.
To disconnect the battery, turn the control lever C on the switch
counterclockwise and remove it; it will remain connected to the battery
master switch by the specific cable.

Disconnecting the battery

- Before disconnecting the battery, deactivate the electronic alarm with
the remote control (see page 10).
Never disconnect the battery from the electrical system when the engine is
running.
Before disconnecting the battery, lower the side windows by at least 2-3 cm
(0.78-1.18 in.) to avoid damaging the weather strips when opening and
closing the doors.

When the battery is connected and fully charged, this operation is done
automatically whenever the doors are opened or closed. The windows must
remain lowered until the recharged battery is reconnected. If the battery is
discharged and the windows are fully up, only open the doors when strictly
necessary and being extremely careful: do not close them again until it the
windows can be lowered.
Disconnection of the battery is advised if the vehicle is not used for long
periods of time.
Refer to the section on "If the vehicle is stored for long periods" in the "Checks
and maintenance" chapter.
After disconnecting the battery, do not close the luggage compartment lid
since the electric lock does not work and any attempts to close the lid may
damage it.

Reconnecting the battery

To access the battery master switch, remove the door B on the right-
hand side of the luggage compartment.
To reconnect the battery, insert the control leverC into the battery
master switch and turn it clockwise until it stops in place.
On every reconnection and before starting the engine, proceed as follows:
1) ECU self-learning procedure:

- Insert the key into the ignition block, turn and leave it to position
II for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the key back to position 0 and leave it is this position for at
least 3 seconds.
- The engine can now be started.
