Troubleshooting

This section describes countermeasures for temporary hardware problems. Check the
malfunction in this section before sending the hardware for repair.
Problem
Device restarts during operation. • Is the power supply device connected correctly?
Judgments are not output to
external device.
No input signal received.
No communication with personal
computer.
Strange linear output levels.
The main display remains on [----
-].
An abnormal distance is dis-
played when the object is clearly
outside the measuring range.
The measured values fluctuate
and are not stable depending on
day and time.
Laser is not emitted.

Probable cause and possible countermeasure
• Does the power supply device conform to the power supply speci-
fications (such as power supply voltage and current consump-
tion)?
• Are all cables connected correctly?
• Is the signal line disconnected?
• Are reset inputs short-circuited?
• Are the non-measurement settings in a clamped state, making the
measurement impossible to perform?
• Are all cables connected correctly?
• Is the signal line disconnected?
• Is the USB cable connected correctly?
• Is the RS-232 cable connected correctly?
• Are other applications using the ports on the personal computer?
• Do the communication conditions match between the personal
computer and controller?
• Has the USB driver been installed?
• Is operation of the controller normal?
• Are you using a personal computer that meets the operating envi-
ronment?
• Is the voltage/current switch on the bottom of the Sensor Control-
ler set to the correct position?
• Has the correct selection (voltage/current) been made in the focus
settings?
Linear output levels can be fine-tuned.
• Has a timing input been made with the hold function enabled and
the trigger type set to [EXT]?
• If the hold function is enabled and the trigger type is [SELF-UP] or
[SELF-DN], has the self-trigger level been set to an appropriate
value?
• This problem may occur due to the characteristics of the sensor.
Make sure that the distance to the sensing object is appropriate.
• This problem is sometimes rectified by setting the emitted light
amount to a fixed distance.
• This problem may be due to temperature characteristics. Execute
zero reset periodically using the standard object to correct this
problem.
• Is the LD_OFF input line short-circuited?
