Troubleshooting Fryers
5.2.1 Controller and Heating Problems
PROBLEM
No display on the
controller.
FQ4000 displays
IS VAT FULL? YES,
NO after a
filtration.
FQ4000 displays IS
DRAIN CLEAR?
FQ4000 displays
CHANGE FILTER?
Fryer repeatedly
cycles on and off
when first started.
Pilot will not ignite;
no evidence of gas
at pilot burner.
Pilot burner ignites
but will not remain
lit.
Main burner will not
come "ON"; gas not
detected at main
burner.
PROBABLE CAUSES
A. No power to fryer.
B. Failed controller or another
component
A. Normal operation at the
beginning or end of most
filtration functions.
B. If the display appears many times
during a filter it could be an
indication of slow oil return.
C. An error may have occurred due
to debris buildup around oil level
sensors.
Drain is clogged, and oil failed to
drain.
Filter error has occurred, filter
clogged, 25-hour filter change
prompt has occurred or change
filter message was ignored on a
prior prompt.
Fryer is in melt cycle.
A. Gas valve is closed.
B. Pilot is blocked.
C. Burner contamination.
A. Improper pilot flame.
B. Connection issue.
A. Gas valve is not turned on.
B. Pilot is not ignited.
C. Oil level float switch stuck down
D. High limit switch tripped.
E. High limit defective.
F. Gas valve defective.
A. Verify that the fryer is plugged in and
that the circuit breaker is not tripped.
B. Call your FAS for assistance.
A. Ensure the vat is full of oil and press
the √ button.
B. See section 5.3 troubleshooting –
Filter Pump runs, but oil return is
very slow.
C. Ensure the area around the oil level
sensors is clean and free of debris.
Clear drain with Fryers Friend and
press √ button. Filtration will resume.
Change the filter and ensure the filter
pan has been removed from the fryer
for a minimum of 30 seconds. Do NOT
ignore CHANGE FILTER prompts.
This is normal operation. This will
continue until the fryer temperature
reaches 180ºF (82ºC).
A. Check that gas valve is open, and gas
is present at the gas valve. Ensure
that any shut off valves behind fryer
are open.
B. Check pilot burner orifice for dirt or
lint.
C. Contact your FAS for service.
A. Contact your FAS for service.
B. Contact your FAS for service.
A. Turn the gas valve knob to the ON
position.
B. Check that the pilot is ignited and is
operating properly.
C. Ensure the oil level float switch is
clean and moves freely up and down
the shaft.
D. Press high limit switch reset under
control box.
E. Contact your FAS for service.
F. Contact your FAS for service.
