22. Remove the rear carrier. Discard the gasket and clean both
surfaces. Remove and discard the rear output carrier seal. Figure
5.22.

23. Remove the rear bearing lock nut and washer from the
intermediate shaft using the "Bearing Lock Nut Socket", tool
number 866-0687-002 page 53. Figure 5.23.
NOTE: It may be necessary to warm the nut slightly using a
propane torch to soften the locking compound applied to the
threads.

24. Remove the input shaft rear cap from the housing. Discard the
gasket and clean both surfaces. Figure 5.24.

25. Remove the bearing lock nut from the rear of the input shaft using
the "Bearing Lock Nut Socket", tool number 866-0687-002 page
53. It may be helpful to manually engage both the high and
low range drive clutches to lock the input and intermediate shafts
together. Figure 5.25.
NOTE: It may be necessary to warm the nut slightly to soften the
locking compound applied to the threads.
