7. While pulling the shift shaft piston, lightly tap the shift forks
toward the front of the case to free them from the shift shaft.
Remove the shift forks from the case. Figure 5.7.

8. Remove the shift shaft along with the piston, spring, and nylon
stop ring. If necessary, the shift cylinder adapter may also be
removed from the case. Figure 5.8.

9. Inspect the adapter o-rings and the shift shaft o-rings and felt
wiper for damage. Replace if necessary. Figure 5.9.
