Connecting the Fibre Optic Cables

This section provides two procedures for connecting the fibre optic cables between
the host and the controller module.
Upgrade—you are replacing existing array controllers with A3500 FC-AL array
controllers.
New Installation—you are installing factory-configured A3500 FC-AL array
controllers.
Note – Both procedures require two people to route and connect the fibre optic
cables.

Upgrade

Use this procedure to replace existing array controllers with A3500 FC-AL array
controllers. In this case, you will use the equipment that was shipped with your
A3500FC controller upgrade kit.
Equipment: Two FC-AL controller boards, one front panel, two 15 meter fiber optic
cables, two SCSI terminators, two cable clips, and the Sun StorEdge RAID Manager
6.22 CD and documentation set.
Note – You may also need a 3/16-inch hex wrench to remove the side panels of the
expansion cabinet.
1. Remove the front panel from the controller module (
See Section 5.1.1 "Removing the Front Panel" on page 5-2.
Note – The front panel in the A3500FC controller upgrade kit has a new bezel to
accommodate the fibre optic cables.
