Questions About Channels
Can I watch one channel while recording from another?
Yes. If you have antenna or cable without a cable box, you can split the signal with an RF splitter. See the Installation Guide for
instructions. (You will not have TiVo service functionality on channels you watch using an RF cable that goes directly to your TV.)
You can also place your DVR in Standby mode. (You will not have TiVo functionality on the channels you watch while in Standby
mode.) You can put your DVR in Standby mode by selecting Standby in Messages & Setup, or pressing the
remote. To return to normal mode from Standby, press either the TiVo, LIVE TV, or
You can always watch any program stored in Now Playing while the DVR is recording a program.
I can't get the channel to change.
If you use cable with no cable box:
Make sure you are using the correct remote control, and that you hold it so that the TiVo button points toward the DVR.
Make sure that the batteries are positioned correctly in the remote. If they are, try a new set of batteries.
Restart your DVR by unplugging it, waiting 15 seconds, then plugging it back in.
Verify that the System Information screen shows that you selected "Cable without a box" during Guided Setup. Go to TiVo Central,
then select Messages & Setup, then System Information.
If you use cable with a cable box:
Make sure the cable box is turned on.
Make sure you are using the correct remote control, and that you hold it so that the TiVo button points toward the DVR, not a cable
or satellite box.
Refer to the Installation Guide to verify that the IR Control cable is positioned correctly.
