This chapter provides an overview of IDP configuration options.
IDP Configuration Basics
IDP Sensor Placement on page 12
IDP Sensor Deployment Mode on page 12
An IDP configuration consists of the following components:
An IDP Sensor, positioned somewhere in the network
Management Server software, running on a dedicated server, which collects
data from IDP Sensors
User Interface software, which connects to the Management Server and allows
users to configure the IDP system and view IDP Sensor data
Installing and configuring an IDP system requires the following steps:
1. Designate a Management Server machine and choose a Management Server
machine IP address. See Installing the IDP Management Server Software on
page 27 for hardware and software requirements.
2. Designate a User Interface software machine. This does not have to be a
dedicated machine. See Installing and Running the User Interface on page 31
for hardware requirements.
3. Plan Sensor placement and deployment mode (this chapter.)
4. Install the Sensor on a rack. See Installing the Sensor on page 15.
5. Connect the IDP Sensor to the network. See Connecting Management Ports on
page 19.
