c. Place the flat piece of the rail slide against the server and secure it with the three supplied flat-
head screws. See Item 4 in
Note: The rack-mount rails are labeled L for left and R for right. Verify that you are installing the
correct rail on the correct side.
5. Position the extension bracket on end of the rail slide to provide the depth needed for the server to fit in
the rack. A couple of extension brackets might be shipped; choose the correct length for your cabinet.

6. Attach the extension bracket to the rear of the rail slide using the supplied screws and retaining bar (2
pan-head screws per bracket). See Item 6 in
7. Connect the extension bracket and rail slide to the customer-provided four-post rack using the correct
customer-provided hardware for that model of cabinet. See Item 7 in

8. Fully extend the rail slides to the locked-out position.
9. With another technician supporting the unit, align the front of the rail slide with the rack-mount rail that is
attached to the server.
10. Push the unit onto the rail slide far enough so that the safety catch engages.
11. Slide the server completely into the rack. Ensure that the server moves smoothly in an out of the rack.
12. Reattach the two screws and retaining bar on the rail slide just before the server-retaining latch (Item 3 in

Installing the S3210R server in a rack-mount configuration
The task describes how to install a server in a commercial cabinet. This setup is called a rack-mount
configuration.
To install an S3210R server into a rack:
Note: The server is typically installed directly above the UPS.
1. Remove the rail assembly and screws from their packaging.
Note: If more than one set of screws is provided, identify the set of 12 screws that fits the S3210R server
hardware. Only one set of thick Philips round head screws fits tightly to the rails. Any other screws are
not needed.
2. Release and detach the inner rail from the slide:
a. Fully extend the rail.
b. Pull the release lock out, the arrow tab, forward. See Item 1 in

c. Separate the inner rail from the slide.
3. Attach the inner rail to the server:
a. Place the S3210R server on a flat, stable surface.
b. Align the inner rail against the side of the server. Only three holes in the rail line up with the
corresponding holes in the server chassis.
c. Starting with the hole nearest the front of the server, insert a screw into the holes indicated in Item
2 in

4. Attach the slide to the frame of the customer-provided cabinet:
a. Loosen the two Philips screws inside the front bracket. Extend the bracket to fit the frame. See
Item 2 in

b. Secure the bracket to the front and rear posts in the customer-provided cabinet. Tighten all three
screws. See Items 4 and 5 in
c. After the bracket is in place, tighten the two screws inside each rear bracket. See Item 5 in
