1. Remove all external media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to
the server.
2. Prepare your server. See "Removing or extending the server from the rack cabinet" on page 57.
3. Remove the server cover. See "Removing the server cover" on page 57.
4. Locate the ThinkServer RAID adapter.
5. Remove the RAID upgrade key from the ThinkServer RAID adapter.
Note: If necessary, remove the RAID adapter first for easier operation. After you remove the RAID
upgrade key, reinstall the RAID adapter. See "Installing or removing a PCIe card" on page 85.

6. Reinstall any parts or reconnect any cables that you have removed.
7. If you are instructed to return the old RAID upgrade key, follow all packaging instructions and use any
packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping.

• To complete the removal procedure, go to "Completing the parts replacement" on page 142. As the
hardware RAID 5 and 50 levels are not available without the RAID upgrade key, you might need to
reconfigure RAID for your server. For information about how to configure hardware RAID, refer to the
MegaRAID SAS Software User Guide on the documentation disc that comes with your server.

Installing or removing a Thunderbolt memory module

This topic applies only to the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 720i PCIe Adapter that supports the TMM. The
following two types of TMM are available:
• ThinkServer RAID 720i Modular Flash
• ThinkServer RAID 720i Modular DRAM Upgrade
The TMM works as the cache memory of the installed Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 720i PCIe Adapter.
