• Use any documentation that comes with the new optical drive and follow those instructions in addition to
the instructions in this topic.
To install or replace the optical drive, do the following:
1. Remove all external media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to
the server.
2. Prepare your server. See "Removing or extending the server from the rack cabinet" on page 57.
3. Remove the server cover. See "Removing the server cover" on page 57.
4. Locate the optical drive or dummy optical drive. See "Server components" on page 23.
5. If you are replacing the optical drive, disconnect the signal cable and the power cable from the rear of
the optical drive. Press the release button inward and then slide the optical drive out from the front of
the server.

6. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new optical drive to any unpainted surface on the
outside of the server. Then, take the new optical drive out of the package.
7. Slide the new optical drive into the drive bay from the front until it is secured by the release button
