Emergency Call System

Information on the Emergency Call System
Your vehicle is equipped with the Emergency Call
System ("eCall"). This feature can help save lives
in the event of an accident. eCall in no way repla‐
ces assistance provided from dialing 911.
eCall only functions in areas where mobile phone
coverage is available from the wireless service
providers. Insufficient network coverage from the
wireless service providers may result in an emer‐
gency call not being transmitted.
eCall is a standard feature in your Mercedes-Benz
vehicle. In order to function as intended, the sys‐
tem relies on the transmission of data detailed in
the "Emergency Call System data transfer" sec‐
tion that follows (
page 279). To disable eCall,
/
a customer must visit an authorized Mercedes-
Benz Service department to deactivate the vehi‐
cle's communication module.
Deactivation of this module prevents the acti‐
vation of any and all Mercedes PRO connect
services. After the deactivation of eCall, auto‐
matic emergency call and manual emergency
call will not be available.
The ignition must be switched on before an auto‐
matic emergency call can be made.
%
eCall is activated at the factory.
%
eCall can be deactivated by an authorized
Mercedes-Benz dealer. Please note that in
the event ownership of the vehicle is trans‐
ferred to another owner in its deactivated
state, eCall will remain deactivated unless
the new owner visits an authorized
Mercedes-Benz dealership to reactivate the
system.
Emergency Call System
eCall can help to reduce the time between an
accident and the arrival of emergency services at
the site of the accident. It helps locate an acci‐
dent site in places that are difficult to access.
However, even if a vehicle is equipped with eCall,
this does not mean the system is ON. As such,
eCall does not replace dialing 911 in the event of
an accident.
The emergency call can be made automatically
(
page 279) or manually (
/
make emergency calls if you or others are in need
of rescue. Do not make an emergency call in the
event of a breakdown or a similar situation.
page 279). Only
