Bridging is a LAN technology that transparently relays Ethernet
frames between Bridge ports. Depending on the destination MAC
addresses of Ethernet frames, the Bridge makes decisions whether
to forward or discard frames.
Central to the operation of a data bridge is its filtering database.
All forwarding and filtering actions are based on information in
this database.

Simplified Bridge Architecture
Ethernet frames are relayed between the LAN port and the
ADSL/ATM ports. The ADSL/ATM ports, sometimes referred to as
virtual ports, are cross connected over the public network to
remote destinations.
