Actuator opens
and closes
2-6 seconds later.

Check for continuity
to ground on
terminal "9" (Gray).
Is continuity
present?
YES
Locate and
repair short to
ground on
(TN/V) wire.

Replace
ECM.
Clear DTCs and confirm proper operation with no
check engine lamp. Codes can be cleared using
DIGITAL TECHNICIAN (Part No. HD-44750).
After replacing ECM or TPS, PTS zero set procedure
must be performed. Refer to THROTTLE POSITION
SENSOR in the appropriate Buell Service Manual.
Remove airbox cover and foam from on top
of Interactive Muffler Control Actuator.
With the throttle in the wide open position,
Turn Ignition Switch ON, and Engine Start
YES
Switch to RUN position.
Does the actuator cycle smoothly?
Opens and
closes
immediately.
Connect Breakout Box and measure
voltage between terminal "9" (Gray) (+)
and ground (-). Disconnect Breakout
Box connector [10](Black) from the
Electronic Control Module (ECM). With
the Ignition Switch ON, connect
Breakout Box terminal "1" to ground.
Is voltage between 4-6V when
grounded, and 0-1V when not
grounded?
YES NO
System OK.
Check continuity between
Clear codes. Breakout Box terminal "9"
(Gray) and [161B] terminal
"4".
Is continuity present?
NO
YES NO
Locate and
repair open
on (TN/V)
With ECM connected,
wire.
measure voltage at
[161B] terminal "4".
4-6V 12V
Replace
Locate and
Interactive
repair short
Muffler
to voltage on
Control
(TN/Y) wire.
Actuator.
NOTES:
YES
Disconnect [10B] (Black) from
ECM. With Ignition Switch
ON, ground connector [10B]

(Black) terminal "1" of
Breakout box.
Does the actuator cycle?
YES
Replace
ECM.
YES
With Ignition Switch ON,
Engine Stop Switch to

RUN position, is battery
voltage present at
[161B] terminal "1"?
YES
Check for continuity between
connector [10B] (Gray) terminal
1
"1" at Breakout Box and
connector [161B] terminal "3".
Is continuity present?
YES
Using pliers, gently pull on cable to
Interactive Muffler Control Actuator.

Does cable cause muffler valve to
open and close freely without binding?
YES
Replace Interactive
Muffler Control
Actuator.

between Brake/
Horn/Muffler Fuse

Locate and
repair open on

Disconnect cable from Interactive
Muffler Control Actuator.
Does actuator arm move freely
without binding?
NO
Replace
muffler
assembly.
