Inspect After Operating

1. Stop the engine and remove the
engine cover (see page 39).
2. Confirm the cooling water leakage
from the engine.

Submerged Outboard Motor

A submerged outboard motor must be
serviced immediately after it is
recovered from the water in order to
minimize corrosion.
If there is your outboard motor
dealership nearby, take the outboard
motor immediately to the dealer. If
you are far from a dealership, proceed
as follows:
1. Remove the engine cover (see page
39), and rinse the outboard motor
with fresh water to remove salt
water, sand, mud, etc.
If the outboard motor was running
when it submerged, there may be
mechanical damage, such as bent
connecting rods. If the engine binds
when cranked, do not attempt to
run the outboard motor until it has
been repaired.
MAINTENANCE
2. Change the engine oil (see page
84).
3. Remove the spark plugs (see page
86). Operate the starter to expel
water from the engine's cylinder.
4. Put a teaspoon of engine oil into
each spark plug hole to lubricate
the inside of the cylinders.
Reinstall the spark plugs.
5. Install the engine cover and lock
the latch securely (see page 39).
