Firewalls
Firewalls protect computers from security threats, such as computer viruses and unauthorized
external access. However, some firewall settings may interfere with the connection between
the camera and computer.

Windows XP Firewall
If you are using the firewall provided with Windows XP Service Pack 2, the settings below are
generally configured automatically at the time of installation. If you cannot establish a wireless
connection between the camera and computer, click the [Start] menu, followed by [Control
Panel] and then double-click [Windows Firewall].
Click the [Exceptions] or [Advanced] tab, and check the three settings listed below.
Other Security Software
If you are using a firewall provided by other security software, read the user guide for that
program and check the three settings listed below.
Enabling the Receipt of ICMP Echo Requests
The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is used to authenticate the connection
between a camera and computer. Accordingly, ICMP must be enabled in your security
software.
Enabling Communication for the Wireless Connection Program
(CALWLESS.exe).
The firewall settings need to be changed to allow the program for wireless connections
(CALWLESS.exe) to communicate with the camera through the firewall.
Usually,
II
CALWLESS.exe
II
is installed in the
II
C:\Program Files\Canon\CAL
II
folder, and its
name may appear as [Canon Camera Access Library 8] in the firewall settings window.
Enabling the UPnPTM Service
The UPnPTM function is used when the program for the wireless connection attempts to
detect the camera. Accordingly, the UPnPTM service must be enabled in your security
software.
