Laying up/Launching

Before taking the boat out of the water for winter/out-of-season storage have an authorized Volvo Penta
workshop inspect the engine and other equipment.
Inhibition should be carried out to ensure that the engine and transmission are not damaged while out of
commission during the winter/off-season. It is important this is done properly and than nothing is forgotten. We
have therefore provided a checklist covering the most important points.
WARNING! Read the chapter on Maintenance carefully before starting work. It contains instructions on how
to carry out the work safely and correctly.

Inhibiting

G
Change engine oil and replace oil filter.
G
Change oil in the reverse gear.
G
Replace fuel filter. Replace fuel pre-filter if
installed.
G
Run engine to normal operating temperature.
G
Take the boat out of the water:
The following should be carried out with
the boat out of the water:
G
Clean the hull and drive directly after taking up the
boat (before it dries).
IMPORTANT! Be careful when cleaning with a
high pressure water spray. Never direct the
jet at seals, rubber bellows and hoses (for
example the propeller shaft seal, exhaust or
drive joint bellows and the trim cylinder
seals).

G
Check the condition of the engine coolant
antifreeze. Top up if required. Replace the coolant
according to the maintenance schedule.
IMPORTANT! An anti-corrosion mixture in the
engine coolant system provides no protection
against freezing. If there is any possibility the
engine will be subjected to freezing
temperatures then the system must be
drained.
G
Open the seacock (not standard with SX-drive).
G
Clean and inhibit the seawater system.
G
Remove the impeller from the seawater pump.
Store the impeller in a sealed plastic bag in a cool
place.
G
If a vacuum valve is installed on the seawater
circuit it must be cleaned.
G
Drain any water and contaminants from the fuel
tank. Fill the tank completely with fuel to avoid
condensation.
G
Clean and charge the batteries. Keep the batteries
charged while the boat is in storage. NOTE! A
poorly charged battery may burst as a result of
freezing.
G
Clean the outside of the engine. Do not use a high
pressure spray to clean the engine. Touch up any
damaged areas of paintwork with Volvo Penta
original paint.
G
Spray electrical system components with moisture
repellent spray.
G
Check all control cables and treat with rust
inhibitor.
G
Change oil in the drive/reverse gear.
