The drive alloy components are protected against galvanic corrosion. This protection consists of five layers of
paint, sacrificial anodes and ground braids.
IMPORTANT! Check the corrosion protection regularly. Used, overpainted or oxidized sacrificial anodes, a
broken ground braid or a paintwork damage can result in corrosion. The corrosion protection may also be
inadequate due to a faulty electrical or faulty painting (for more information see "Electrical system" and
Painting the drive and hull).

Sacrificial anodes. Checking
Check the sacrificial anodes at the front edge of the
drive (1) and under the shield (2) every 14 days and
the aluminum anode (3) in the lower transmission
housing once a year. Replace with new anodes
when approximately 30% of the anode has been
eroded. Note that most stainless steel propellers
(accessories) use the sacrificial anodes faster than
normal.
2
The sacrificial anodes oxidize in contact with air,
which diminishes the galvanized protection. Even a
new anode can be oxidized on the surface. Therefore
always clean the sacrificial anodes before
launching the boat.
IMPORTANT! Use emery paper. Do not use a
Ground braids. Check
The ground braids join the drive and shield separate
components at a common ground point on the engine.
Check that the ground braids are not broken and have
good contact.
IMPORTANT! Tighten the new anodes so that
there is a good metallic contact is retained.
IMPORTANT! Use zinc sacrificial anodes for
salt water and magnesium anodes for freshwater.
wire brush or other steel tools when cleaning, as
these may damage the galvanic protection.
