Installing and Removing Hard Disk Drives
Mounting a Hard Drive in a Drive Carrier
32
Because of the hot-swap capability of the SATA drives, you do not need to access the inside of the
chassis or power down the system to install or replace the drives. The hard drives are mounted in
drive carriers to simplify their installation and removal from the chassis. These carriers also help
promote proper airflow for the drive bays. For this reason, even empty carriers without drives
installed must remain in the chassis.
Use the following procedure to mount a hard drive in a carrier:
1.
Place the hard drive carrier on a flat, stable surface such as a desk, table, or workbench.
2. Insert a drive into the carrier with the printed circuit board side facing down, as shown in
Figure
5-2.
3. Align the mounting holes of the hard drive with those of the carrier and ensure that the
bottom of the hard drive is flush with that of the carrier.
4. Secure the drive to the carrier with four screws, as shown in
Figure
5-2.
