CHECKING THE SPARK PLUGS/

CHECKING THE IGNITION TIMING

8. Install:
• spark plugs
NOTE:
Before installing the spark plug, clean the spark
plug and gasket surface.
9. Connect:
• spark plug caps
10. Install:
• cylinder head covers

CHECKING THE IGNITION TIMING
NOTE:
Prior to checking the ignition timing, check the
wiring connections of the entire ignition system.
Make sure that all connections are tight and free
of corrosion.
1. Remove:
• timing plug 1
2. Install:
• timing light 2
• engine tachometer 3 (to the spark plug lead
of cylinder #1)
Timing light:
90890-03141
Engine tachometer:
90890-03113
3. Check:
• ignition timing
a. Start the engine, warm it up for several min-
utes, and then let it run at the specified engine
idling speed.
Engine idling speed:
950 ~ 1,050 r/min
b. Check that the stationary pointer a is within
the firing range b on the generator rotor.
Incorrect firing range
system.
NOTE:
The ignition timing is not adjustable.
4. Install:
• timing plug
