31.1 IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center

The IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center or TPC is a suite of software products. It is
designed to support customers in monitoring and managing their storage environments.
Design and development emphasis for TPC is on scalability and standards. The approach
based on open standards allows TPC to manage any equipment or solution implementation
which follow the same open standards.
Figure 31-1 shows a split set of products with three components based on former Tivoli
products and a package with two components designed and developed to facilitate storage
replication solutions.

All three Tivoli products provide a single source and single management tool to cover the
tasks of the storage manager or network manager in their daily business.
1. TPC for Disk is software based on open standard interfaces to query, gather and collect all
available data necessary for performance management.
2. TPC for Data focus on data management and addresses aspects related to information
life cycle management.
3. TPC for Fabric is a management tool to monitor and manage a SAN fabric.
TPC for Replication, as a member of the TPC product family, is a standalone package and
does not build on anything related to the TPC Standard Edition.
It comes in two flavors as follows:
TPC for Replication includes support for:
– FlashCopy
– Planned failover and restart (one direction) for MM and GM
TPC for Replication Two Site Business Continuity (BC) includes support for:
– FlashCopy
– Planned and unplanned failover and failback for MM and GM
– High availability (2 TPC Replication servers)
