24.5.9 Remove a Global Mirror environment

The following sections discuss, in a step-by-step approach, how to remove a Global Mirror
environment using ICKDSF. The sequence of steps followed in our example is the
recommended one, although it is not a mandatory one. Still, it guarantees a clean and
straightforward removal of the Global Mirror environment.
This is the recommended sequence for removing a Global Mirror environment:

1. Stop the Global Mirror session.

2. Remove the Global Copy primary volumes (A) from the Global Mirror session.
3. Un-define or remove the session from all involved primary LSSs.
4. Withdraw the FlashCopy relationship between the B and C volumes.
5. Delete the Global Copy volume pairs.
6. Remove the paths between local and remote LSSs, as well as the paths between the
Master LSS and the Subordinate LSSs.
24.5.10 Stop the Global Mirror session
First you stop the Global Mirror session. This is a session command that you target to the
Master LSS; see Example 24-33 on page 325.
Note that the Global Copy replication process still continues, but there are no FlashCopy
operations any longer. This is because the FlashCopy operations were part of the process of
Consistency Groups formation, but now we have asked to stop the session, thus to stop the
Consistency Groups formation activity.
