26.10 Set up a Global Mirror environment using the DS CLI

You may consider implementing a standard task such as creating a Global Mirror session,
through a more automated process than the DS SM graphical interface approach. The DS
CLI provides a good approach, which is similar to what you may do with REXX procedures, or
other software-based tools in System z environments, to assist when managing remote copy
configurations.
The DS Storage Manager GUI has its value in a situation when, for example, you have to
react somehow ad hoc. The DS SM GUI also has some advantage over the DS CLI when you
need to retrieve information from certain storage images, which may not be so easy to
understand through the DS CLI if you are not accustomed to working with it.
The following sections show how to perform the necessary activities for the setup of a Global
Mirror environment using the DS Command-Line Interface.
Note: The example presented in this section was run on a DS8000. The same process
and commands are applicable to a DS6000 configuration.
The components that have to be defined, as well as the procedure to be followed, to set up a
Global Mirror environment are the same, independent of the management interface that is
used. At the beginning of 26.9, "Set up a Global Mirror environment using DS SM" on
page 373, those topics are discussed.
Note: You will notice that here we frequently use the terms
