The next step is the definition of volumes in the Global Mirror session. The focus is still on the
local site; see Figure 22-14. Note that only Global Copy primary volumes are meaningful
candidates to become a member of a Global Mirror session.
This process adds primary volumes to a list of volumes in the Global Mirror session. But at
this stage it does still not perform consistency group formation.
Note that Global Copy is replicating, on the Global Copy secondary volumes, the application
updates that arrive to the Global Copy primary volumes. Initially the Global Copy primary
volumes are placed in a

22.3.7 Start Global Mirror session

This is the last step and it starts the Global Mirror session. Upon this, Global Mirror starts to
form Consistency Groups at the remote site. As Figure 22-15 on page 260 indicates, the
focus here is on the local site, with the start command issued to an LSS in the primary
storage disk subsystem. With this start command you set the Master storage disk subsystem
and the Master LSS. From now on, session related commands have to go through this Master
LSS.
