3.5.23. Optional Paper Feeder Interface Circuit

The optional paper feeder has a 16 bit I/O expander. IC14 on the engine control board senses the paper jam, paper size and drives
the paper pickup solenoid on the optional paper feeder through the I/O expander. The communication between IC14 and I/O
expander is performed using the 4-wired serial method.
The signal NSIORST (pin 94, IC14) is the hardware reset. When turning on the printer, the signal NSIORST is the high. To
communicate with the first optional paper feeder and second optional paper feeder, IC14 asserts the signal NSIOCS1 and
NSIOCS2 alternately. When the signal NSIOCS1 is the high, IC14 recognizes the status of the first optional paper feeder. When
the signal NSIOCS2 is the high, IC14 recognizes the status of the second optional paper feeder. The sensing data ( paper jam,
paper size, etc) is sent to the IC14 from the I/O expander using the SDI data line. The paper pickup solenoid driving data is sent
to the I/O expander using the data line SDO while synchronizing with the clock signal SCLK.
