3.5.19. BK Solenoid Drive Circuit
This circuit consists of the BK solenoid drive circuit and short detection circuit. The rotation of BK motor is transmitted to the black
print cartridge to drive the black print cartridge through the gears in the main drive unit. The BK solenoid is for cutting off this "BK
motor rotation transmitting to black print cartridge". When the BK solenoid is turned on, the "BK motor rotation transmitting to black
print cartridge" is cut off. IC14 outputs the high level signal RSVSOL1 (pin165), turning on the transistor Q28. By the transistor Q28,
the transistor Q3 is turned on and +24 V power is supplied to the pickup solenoid. Besides, IC14 outputs the high level FEEDSOL
signal (pin176 of IC14) and the BK solenoid is energized. This moves the BK clutch arm in the main drive unit, and a gear in the
rotation transmitting travel is released from the BK clutch arm. As a result, the rotation of this gear is free. The "BK motor rotation
transmitting to black print cartridge" is cut off. This operation is performed when the printer does not need the black print cartridge,
such as during pre-heating mode and feeding the paper at the printing.
The short detection circuit is for detecting whether the solenoid drive circuit is shorted or not. If this circuit is shorted, the signal
NFAILDR (pin173 of IC14) becomes a low level. IC14 receives this signal, and detects that the solenoid drive circuit is shorted. The
error message "Printer Error 47" is displayed on the LCD display.
