Before Starting the UPS

This section provides procedures to be carried out before starting the UPS.
Determine the steps required for the application:
Understanding the UPS requirements
I
Connecting the UPS communications port to the host computer
I
Connecting the UPS Phone/Fax Surge Protector (select models only)
I
Verifying a safe UPS load
I
NOTE: Although some of these steps can be carried out after the UPS is installed, the UPS
will need to be powered down to safely perform these tasks.

UPS Requirements

Confirm that the UPS power, at the outlet, does not routinely get turned
I
off. The UPS interprets any AC line failure as a blackout, and will
operate accordingly. Even with the connected load equipment turned
off, if the UPS inverter is enabled, the battery charge would slowly
deplete.
For best performance, keep the indoor temperature between 32°F and
I
104°F (between 0°C and 40°C).
Compaq Pro UPS 500 models are intended for installation in a
I
temperature-controlled, indoor area free of conductive contamination.
The unit must be kept dry at all times. Avoid exposing the UPS to high
heat or humidity.
Do not block the cooling vents on the UPS unit. These vents must be
I
open for the UPS to operate properly.
Position the UPS at least 6 inches away from any monitors or floppy
I
disks. Small magnetic fields present during backup operation can cause
monitor interference, and can disrupt information on disks.
