The bnghmess can be ad.lueted to 255 levels If a lngh value ~s set for the brightness, the tmage
will become brighter overall If a low value ts set, the mu~e wdl become darker overall
When scannmg a dark ongmal, set a htgh value for the bnghmess, when scannmg a bright
original set a low value for the brtghmess ~ example, Lf a dark ongmal~s scanned normally,
any gradattons m the darker pomons wall be lost and wall appear to be sohd black m the scanned
xmage By increasing the brightness value m thts case, the gradations m the darker pomon will
also eppear m the scanned xmage Conversely, Lf the bright pomons of an ongmal become sohd
wlnte m the scanned nnage, lowering the brightness value will bring out the gradations m the
bright pomon m the scanned nnage

The conlrast can be adjusted to 255 levels If ahtgh contrast value ~s set, the resultmg tmage will

have high contrast and wall be sharply defined If alow conlrast value ts set, the resulting Iow-
conlrast m3age will have a softer feeL
To produce a sharp nnage, mcrease the conlrast value, to produce a soft m3age, decrease the
contrast value For example, when scannmg a photo of metal, glass, etc, set atngh contrast value
m order to aclueve a sharp feel
